Organic pop meets chillwave” seems a fitting label to put on Slowes, which was formed in 2015 by the dynamic Danish/English duo Jack Kilburn (vocals) and Anders Hamann (drums). With a profound love for alternative psychedelic pop the two musicians excell in effective piano chords, head-nodding beats, phased-out synths and sparse, yet elegant vocal melodies. Thus creating a well- defined soundscape that has already gained them a considerable amount of media attention in the blogosphere. The release of their debut single ‘I Need You’ saw support from the likes of Indie Shuffle, Clash and Idolator – going on to gain 100k+ hits on Soundcloud and exposure acrossBBC Radio, with support from Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Nemone.
With the release of their second single ‘Something Special’ the band seems to be going from strength to strength. ‘Something Special’ starts with their trademark synth pads, this time presented in a moody minor key. The echoing soul-inspired vocal line really hits its stride at the chorus – the line ‘cos you’re something special, tell me your name’ chimes against a sharp, shining solo synth melody. The irresistibly infectious single succeeds in maintaining their abstract modern electronic quality. 'I Need You' was produced by Slowes and mixed and mastered by Christian Alex Petersen (LISS, Marching Church, Mew). 'Something Special' was also self-produced the aid of mix engineer Nikolaj Vinten (First Hate). Described by Indie Shuffle as ‘future soul’ and drawing comparisons from the likes of Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Whitney, Slowes’ latest single takes their unique sound further into the unknown.
Slowes has just finished their debut EP there'll be released this spring through the UK label Distiller Records. The EP is produced by Slowes with Christian Alex Petersen, mixed by Ben Baptie (Arcade Fire, Adele, Låpsley) and mastered by Mandy Parnell (Jamie xx, Shura, Daughter).
